Constant Settings

In the Constant Settings window you select the background image, the particle image and configure general shape and movement of the particle system.

Go to "Settings->Constant Settings..." to open the Constant Settings window.

Many constant settings can be set either by dragging a horizontal slider bar, or entering a number directly into the input box next to that slider bar. You can enter any number you wish into the input box, but overriding the maximums allowed by the sliders can create unpredictable results.

(the slider range for size is generally from 0 to 20.0,
but here we enter 50.0 to make the particles much larger
than normal)

The following are the possible particle system constant settings. When you are viewing the constant settings page you can hold your mouse over a setting to view a brief description.

MOVEMENT - Apply a complex movement to all particles

COLOR - Choose the coloring scheme applied to all particles

BACKGROUND - Choose a background color or background image for the particle system

PARTICLE IMAGE - Apply a shape or a colored picture to the particles or choose your own custom picture (custom pictures will need to have an alpha channel in order to blend correctly)

BLENDING STYLE - Choose the way that the particles blend when they overlap

NUMBER PER SECOND - Set the number of new particles created per second

SPEED - Set the speed of the particles

LIFETIME - Set how many seconds the particles last before disappearing

START SIZE - Set the start size of the particles

END SIZE - Set the end size of the particles

HORIZONTAL DIRECTION - Set the initial horizontal direction of the particles (positive is rightwards)

VERTICAL DIRECTION - Set the initial vertical direction of the particles (positive is higher)

DEPTH DIRECTION - Set the initial depth direction of the particles (positive is away from you)

HORIZONTAL RANGE - Set the horizontal range of directions of the particles (0 is narrow)

VERTICAL RANGE - Set the vertical range of directions of the particles (0 is narrow)

DEPTH RANGE - Set the depth range of directions of the particles (0 is narrow)

HORIZONTAL LOCATION - Set the starting horizontal location of the particles (positive is to the right)

VERTICAL LOCATION - Set the starting vertical location of the particles (positive is higher)

DISTANCE FROM CAMERA - Set the starting depth location of the particles (positive is away from you)

WIDTH - Set the width of the particle emitter (0 makes all particles start at the same point horizontally)

HEIGHT - Set the height of the particle emitter (0 makes all particles start at the same point vertically)

DEPTH - Set the depth of the particle emitter (0 makes all particles start at the same distance from you)

Note: If the display is not smooth, try reducing the Number Per Second or Size, shutting down other active programs, or restarting your computer. If this doesn't help, and you want to see smoother displays you may need to purchase a new graphics card.
