=== Alive Clinical 1.6.2 ===
The optimal breathing determination when using breaths per minute is now a more standard protocol. Optimal breathing is determined, when set to breaths per minute, using the following sequence: 6.5 breaths per minute, 6, 5.5, 5, 4.5. The seconds per breath protocol has not changed, and includes both faster and slower possible optimal breathing speeds.
=== Alive 1.6.2 ===
Tropical Jet Ski is now available as an Add-on game in the Alive Main Menu Games list.
Spoon bending is now available from the main menu games drop down.
A variety of minor fixes and increases in Alive stability.
=== Alive Clinical 1.6.1 ===
Always Unlock - Now in the clinical control panel you can choose to always unlock new users directly to the main menu, skipping the coach orientation. To do this set Unlock Main Menu to Always. To unlock the main menu only for one user set Unlock Main Menu to Unlock Now for This User. Leaving Unlock Main Menu on Manually (the default) shows new users the coach orientation (introduction) unless you manually unlock the main menu by setting it to Unlock Now for This User.
=== Alive 1.6.1 ===
Breath Pacer Graph - A new graph is available in graph training, the breath pacer graph. This graph shows the breathing animation, and a line showing the breath pacer. Press the hide button to hide the breathing animation and only show the breath pacer line.
=== Alive Clinical 1.6 ===
Breaths Per Minute Option: In the clinical control panel you can now change the breath pacer to breaths per minute, which is much more familiar to clinicians.
New Optimal Breathing Speed Protocol: The optimal breathing speed protocol has been improved dramatically. The protocol in the clinical version of Alive is now 2 minutes per breathing rate, and has a note displayed in-between each segment to take a little break and breathe normally. At the end of the protocol optimal breathing speed is automatically determined by heart rate range (Max-Min per cycle), but smoothness and other requested frequency based characteristics are also graphed. This new protocol goes (in breaths per minute) 8, 7, 6.5, 6, 5.5. If after 5.5 breaths per minute the optimal speed so far is 5.5, then the protocol continues, checking if 4.5 is optimal. If 4.5 is optimal it also tests if 4 is optimal and then displays the results.
You can now review your last Optimal Breathing results by going back to the Optimize Breath Pacer item from the Alive Workshops in the main menu.
Graph scaling when changing the x-scale on a graph has been improved to keep the data centered so it is easy to change scale without losing the line.
Minor fixes for the Half Life 2 mod (emWave version only).
=== Alive 1.6 ===
Added Smoothness graph to Graph Training.
The heart rate graphs in Graph Training are now scalable using the sliders on the outside of the graphs.
Improved emWave Coherence (emWave version only).
Minor fixes for Particle Editor and Inner Tube.
Improved Dual Drive player ordering (1st place, 2nd place, etc.).
Particle Editor and Inner Tube now appear at the bottom of the Environments and Games lists.
=== Alive 1.5.6 ===
This Alive update allows our separate (original) products, Particle Editor and Inner Tube, to work as Alive games. This means that they launch from Alive, and sessions are recorded in Alive. Also people using the clinical version of Alive can set SCL parameters for training using these games. Particle Editor is a series of (depending on the device) 100 environments, and also allows you to create custom biofeedback environments. Inner Tube is our original space ship game, has 100 levels divided between 4 packs, and can be played on manual pilot (like Dual Drive). Particle Editor and Inner Tube must be purchased separately, unless you already own these products, in which case this update will allow them to work with Alive (separate download required, follow the instructions in Alive).
There is now a "last 3 sessions" statistic. This lets you see if you are improving over time, for example if you have a 30% smoothness average, but last 3 sessions average is 50%, you are increasing your smoothness!
A new intro video, explaining Alive, now plays when you start a new user or repeat the orientation (repeat orientation button from the Alive main menu).
For users of Alive for emWave the speed of the coherence / smoothness changes is improved, and you can now chose to use either the HeartMath emWave coherence algorithms or the Somatic Vision smoothness algorithms (upgrade to Alive for emWave buy purchasing the Dual Compatibility Upgrade from www.somaticvision.com). Half Life 2, which can be made to work with emWave for Alive (press the install half life 2 button from the Alive main menu when using the emWave hardware), has also been improved.
=== Alive Clinical 1.5.6 ===
Inner Tube and Particle Editor can both be used for SCL training, as well as combined HRV & SCL training. You can install trial copies of the games from the Alive main menu.
=== Alive 1.5.5.1 ===
Added support for the emWave sensor. The emWave sensor is an ear-clip (or finger sensor) made by HeartMath. The ear-clip allows you to have both hands free, opening up additional possibilites for future uses of Alive. Alive can now connect with either the Wild Divine or emWave sensors, depending on which is connected when you start Alive. Alive for emWave does not require emWave PC to be open in the background.
If you own Alive for Wild Divine, and an emWave sensor, and want to also use Alive for the emWave sensor, you will need to purchase the "Alive Dual Compatibility Upgrade" from the Alive products page at www.somaticvision.com. If you have recently purchased the emWave version of Alive and want to also use a Wild Divine IOM or Lightstone you will also need to purchase the same Alive Dual Compatibility Upgrade.
=== Alive 1.5.4 ===
Added heart rate smoothness difficulty selection to the Alive Main Menu. You can now train with Alive at 5 different difficulty levels. If you find it easy to smooth your heart rate variability at Alive's Standard setting, you can set the difficulty to any of 3 new levels of increasing difficulty. If Standard is too difficult, you can set the difficulty level to Easy. You can change the difficulty on the main menu, once you have completed the Orientation.
Fixed issue with Alive 1.5.3 where the default difficulty was set to Easy for new users. Now the default heart rate smoothness difficulty is correctly set to Standard.
Improved general stability of Alive including many minor bug fixes.
=== Alive Clinical 1.5.4 ===
Now all SCL data is saved to .scl files for all sessions to allow for detailed post analysis of SCL.
=== Alive 1.5.3 ===
Heart rate errors are now shown as red lines in the heart rate line graph.
Further improvements to heart rate error detection algorithms to reduce errors.
Alive now works on low resolution displays down to 800x600 pixels.
=== Alive Clinical 1.5.3 ===
Skin conductance graphs in Alive Environments now shows the session length.
=== Alive 1.5.2 ===
Bug fixes and improvements in heart rate error detection. Heart rate errors are now much less common, due to improved processor management and improved algorithms. This update dramatically reduces the number of heart rate errors, and is highly recommended to install.
Reduced RAM requirements for Streaming Water environment.
Improved Alive display on low-resolution monitors.
=== Alive Clinical 1.5.2 ===
Added skin conductance graphs to Alive Environments and Mini-Games. These graphs are similar to the graphs shown in Dual Drive when training skin conductance.
=== Alive 1.5.0 ===
Check out the new YouTube Alive video tutorials! The video tutorials, along with other useful information are posted at the Somatic Vision forum. Go to www.somaticvision.com and click "Forum" in the top bar. Click the "Tips & Tricks for SV Games & Environments" forum then the "Alive Video Tutorials" topic.
This is a major new update, bringing skin conductance training to all environments and mini-games in Alive Clinical. You can set skin conductance under the new feedback drop down in Alive Clinical. When choosing a mini-game or environment in skin conductance mode you will first be taken to the skin conductance graph training screen, where you can set starting and target skin conductance values. We also recommend using two screens for skin conductance training, using the clinical two screen training option, so that you can continue to adjust skin conductance parameters while training. It is possible to use two screen training with only one monitor, and simply switch back and forth between the windows as needed.
Added review mode where you can review sessions without having the Lightstone or IOM finger sensors attached to your computer. To use review mode go to Start Menu -> Program Files -> Alive for Wild Divine -> Alive Review Mode - No Finger Sensors.
Added new Streaming Water environment.
Fixed issue where Alive did not work on computers where the user's documents directory was stored on a network drive.
Added a link to the Trouble Breathing Slowly exercise to the main menu.
Changed mini-games so that you never lose points (play count).
Progress review now contains additional details for all sessions, to make it easier to find a particular session.
=== Alive Clinical 1.5.0 ===
Can choose to train with heart rate smoothness or skin conductance for all mini-games and environments.
Added clinical control panel button to main menu.
Secondary graphing screen can now switch between graphs during session recording.
Changed the color of the skin conductance graph SCL % to target bar from red to blue. Filling in this bar shows more blue making it more obvious this is increased relaxation.
=== Alive 1.0.2.2 ===
Improved heart rate detection algorithm.
Errors in reading heart rate from cold hands, movement, or sensor disconnection are now shown in a new alert message that appears at the top of the screen. This does not stop or interfere with game play or session recording. Heart rate errors are also shown in red when reviewing individual sessions (heart rate and smoothness lines turn from orange to red where a heart rate error occurred in single session review).
Fixed auto-update system errors found on some Windows 7 machines.
=== Clinical 1.0.2.2 ===
You can now choose a heart rate smoothness difficulty level in the clinical version through the clinical control panel (press the backquote key "`"). The prior difficulty level (the level at which Alive was training before difficulty levels were introduced) is now called Standard. There is one easier level and three harder levels now available. The session statistics do not change based on changes in difficulty level, but you can see what difficulty level a session was set at during session review. When changing a user's difficulty levels make sure this does not cause the user to hyperventilate with the strain of increasing their heart rate smoothness.
You can now turn off all coach suggestions through the clinical control panel (`).
You can now change the BVP Graph timescale and location by dragging the sliders above the BVP graph in the BVP graphing screen (similar to the SCL graph training sliders).
Fixed some bugs with using the secondary screen graph display. To open the secondary graph screen open the clinical control panel (`) then press "Launch secondary graphing screen". This will let you add comments while, for instance a client plays Dual Drive, and also lets you pause session recording.
Fixed a bug where exiting SCL graph training while music feedback was on caused crash.
=== Alive 1.0.2.1 ===
Dramatically improved heart rate detection. You will probably notice smoother heart rate patterns after this update. In the past, due to the sampling rate provided by the Wild Divine hardware, the heart rate could sometimes be 1-2 beats per minute off from the true value. This caused occasional problems with older users whose total heart rate changes were low (around 5 beats per minute), making it seem like the heart rate was not smooth even if it was smooth. The heart rate is now almost ECG accurate under optimal conditions and should work even on users with a 3 beat per minute total variability.
Delete user button now working (button was broken and did not let you delete users).
Added a main menu Coach Suggestion button that brings up the main menu coach suggestion window. This way you can see the coach suggestion window as many times per day as you want, or change your mind if you ask to not have a suggestion for a week (if you pressed self guided this week).
Added detection for removal of the middle finger sensor. Removing the middle sensor will show a flat-line heart rate.
Added low resolution video option for Alive Environments and Mini-Games. Some of the Alive Environments and Mini-Games played slowly on older computers, or computers without dedicated 3d graphics cards. From the Alive Environments or Mini-Games top menu go to Choose Display => Use Smaller Videos to Speed Playback to dramatically help improve system performance if you notice any performance issues. At the end of video playback, when the video loops back to the beginning, if low performance was detected you will be notified in the bottom right corner of the Environment or Mini-Game.
Added new BVP graph in the graph training section to show the raw pulse signal. If you are getting heart rate readings that seem incorrect, or want to check on the signal quality, make sure there are clear spikes and a heart rate number shown in the BVP graph each time your heart beats.
=== Clinical 1.0.2.1 ===
Added individual session export to Kubios HRV. Kubios HRV is free to download from http://kubios.uku.fi/ and lets you run additional, research grade, statistical analysis on Alive HRV (smoothness) sessions. Alive Kubios export .txt files are stored in Documents/Alive Sessions/User Name.
Added session export to Excel .csv for review in Excel. In the clinician screen there is now a button to export all sessions to a .csv. In addition each new session recorded after this update automatically exports a .csv file you can open in Excel. There will soon be Excel templates that will automatically create session graphs for both single sessions and multi-session review. Meanwhile you can still open the .csv data and create graphs manually. CSV files are stored in Documents/Alive Sessions/User Name.
The breath pacer can now be reduced to 4.5 seconds per breath. This speed is not optimal for smoothing heart rate, but can be useful for kids or adults who are uncomfortable breathing at 7.5 seconds per breath. Over time it is recommended to guide users to at least a 7.5 seconds per breath pacer speed, but it may be useful to start at 4.5 and increase the pacer count over time.
In Graph Training you can now type a comment and press enter to add it. You can also still press the plus button to add a comment.
Fixed a crash where adding quotes to a session comment prevented review of the session. Although this is fixed we still don't recommend adding special characters to session comments, just in case.
Fixed a crash with Dual Drive in SCL mode.

Skin conductance graphing manual zooming of the y-axis (skin conductance axis) is improved.
Removed heart rate error markers from Clinical View review graphs.
Improved Axis labels and lines system. This improves axis labels and lines for graph training, and both single and multi-session (progress report) Clinical Views. Axis labels now choose clean whole numbers, or sensible fractions such as 0.5 or 0.25. Axis labels used to subdivide evenly between the minimum and maximum value. For example a graph that had a minimum of 1.37 and a maximum of 5.81 used to show labels and lines at 1.37, 2.48, 3.59, 4.7 and 5.81 but, for example, would now have them placed at 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0.
=== Alive 1.0.1.7 ===
Improved autoupdate system.
Increased thickness of graph training lines and made all axis labels more transparent to avoid obscuring the line.
=== Clinical 1.0.1.7 ===
Improved graph training screens.
Skin conductance graph training auto-scrolls.
Can now hide and show various elements of the skin conductance graph training.
Improved clinical view of multi-session review. Loading is now much faster for users with many sessions recorded.

Improvements listed here include all changes from Alive 0.9.9.5
Many improvements to the Coach introduction.
Fixed Alive Environments heart rate graphs. These did not vary as much as they should have vertically on any computers, and even sometimes did not report correct heart rate on slower computers.
Added 2 new Environments: Power Vine and Incoming Tide
Added 1 new Mini Game: Golden Sunrise
Changed maximum breath pacer speed to 15 seconds per breath for very slow breathers (most people do not need such slow breathing). If you want to see if your optimal breathing speed is higher than 11 seconds per breath, run the optimal breathing speed test again.
Fixed error on some systems where returning to Alive main menu, instead of showing the menu the screen is blue and empty.
Updated manual with lots of new techniques. For maximum benefit, please print the manual and follow the eight-week program!
Added many new coach workshops.
Heart rate smoothness now moves slower when going from even to uneven to give you a chance to recover.
Smoothed breath pacer and increased time where you are transitioning between in and out breaths for more comfortable breathing at faster speeds.
