Dual Drive is Stuck in DirectX Mode and Doesn't Work

Dual Drive's default rendering system is OpenGL. This can be changed in Options -> Graphics -> Display Driver. On some systems where OpenGL doesn't work, changing this option to DirectX can fix certain problems or improve performance. DirectX mode is not a fully supported mode in Dual Drive, and using DirectX mode may lead to crashes, or even prevent you from being able to open Dual Drive.

If you change Dual Drive to DirectX mode, and then are unable to open Dual Drive to change the display driver back to OpenGL, please follow these steps to reset your Dual Drive preferences:

Dual Drive as part of Alive
Delete the DDXprefs.cs from the user Documents/Alive Sessions/ folder.

Dual Drive Standalone (original Dual Drive)
Delete the prefs.cs and prefs.cs.dso files. The file location depends on your version of Windows:
Windows XP: Program Files/Dual Drive Pro WD/racing/client/
Windows Vista or 7: Users/[user name]/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Dual Drive Pro WD/racing/client/
Note for Vista or 7: The AppData folder is hidden. The easiest way to open this folder is to type %LOCALAPPDATA% in your start menu search box, then hit enter.

Skin Conductance Stability is Stuck at 1.0 / Max

Try applying moisturizer to the two fingers that have the finger sensors with the thinner cables attached. The middle sensor with the thicker cord and small gold dot on the top of the finger sensor should not get moisturizer on it.

Dual Drive Crashes During Countdown

This is caused by certain virus protection software, particularly Panda. If you have Panda and wish to use Dual Drive you should probably Disable Panda while using Dual Drive (disabling your virus software is always done at your own risk), or use different virus protection software. If you do not wish to disable Panda while using Dual Drive, try disabling the artificial intelligence option by following these steps:

  1. Open the Panda Control Panel.
  2. Under Security Protection, click on the Settings option.
  3. On the left-hand side, click on Unknown Threats.
  4. On the right, next to Enable TruPrevent Technologies, click on the Settings button.
  5. Disable (uncheck) the behavior analysis based on artificial intelligence option.
  6. Close the Panda Control Panel.

Dual Drive is running slowly. How can I get it to run faster?

  1. Close all other open programs. Also try restarting your computer.
  2. Having less computer controlled cars (bots) will help the game run faster. You can lower or remove the bots in the Options menu.
  3. Lowering the resolution of Dual Drive will help it run faster. You can lower the resolution by opening the Options menu then clicking the “Graphics” tab. Change the “resolution” to a lower value. You may then want to either put Dual Drive in “full screen” mode or lower the resolution of your monitor, so that Dual Drive takes up most of the screen at this lower resolution.
    See: Changing resolution tutorial
  4. Dual Drive may run faster in full screen mode (Options Menu -> Graphics -> Full Screen). Press Alt-Enter to switch back and forth between full screen mode and windowed mode.
  5. If you are using two monitors make sure Dual Drive is running on your primary monitor.
    See: Switching monitors tutorial
  6. Your computer (especially if you are using a laptop), may not have a graphics card capable of accelerating Dual Drive. Make sure the laptop or desktop you are using has a recent ATI or nVidia graphics card with OpenGL acceleration. If you are using a desktop you can purchase a new ATI or nVidia card (look for something in the $70-$150 range). If you are using a laptop you will have to get a new computer to further improve performance.
  7. It is possible that if you have less than 512Mb of RAM upgrading RAM will improve the speed of Dual Drive, but the graphics card and processor speed are much more important.
  8. Certain levels in Dual Drive will run slower, as they are more complex. You can skip these levels by pressing Ctrl-N after the level loads.

I have installed Dual Drive on a computer, but I want to move it to another computer, or re-install Windows. Can I do this?

You can install Dual Drive on up to two computers, as long as it is only used on one computer at a time (if you want to use it on two computers at a time you need to purchase two copies of Dual Drive).

If you wish to move your registration, from one computer to another, download the removal / move tool at: http://www.somaticvision.com/downloads/public/Transfer_Tool_Setup_2.0.exe

Dual Drive is not connecting to the “Somatic Vision Data Socket”. What is wrong?

Your firewall may be blocking Dual Drive. No data is being transmitted to the internet, but local internet protocols are used to send data between various parts of the Dual Drive program. You must configure your firewall to allow “DualDriveEngine” and “SomaticVisionServer”. To configure your firewall to see the tutorial at http://www.somaticvision.com/tutorials/unblockdualdrive#fix

My car got stuck, or fell off the track and can’t get back on track, what do I do?

Press Ctrl-R to reset your car.

How do I make Dual Drive maximized / full screen?

To maximize Dual Drive click the standard Windows maximize button.

Dual Drive doesn’t start / There are weird graphical errors

You may need to upgrade your video card drivers. Download and install the latest drivers from your computer manufacturer (Dell / HP / Sony) or video card manufacturer (ATI / nVidia).

My heart rate reading doesn't seem accurate or is in error

If you move your fingers you can create false heart rate measurements (finger movement artifacts). Also if you are cold or have poor circulation the finger sensors may have trouble reading your heart rate. In either case faulty readings appear as the heart rate jumping directly to about twice or half its value (from 50 directly to 100 beats per minute for example). Try keeping your fingers still, putting on a sweater, or turning on the heat in your home. You can also warm your hands by relaxing, as relaxation tends to lead to warmer hands through increased blood flow to your hands and feet.
